About Zambia About 68% of Zambians live below the recognized national poverty line, with rural poverty rates standing at about 78%. Per capital annual incomes are currently at about one-half their levels at independence in 1964 and, at $395, places the country among the world's poorest nations.
Social indicators continue to decline. The country's rate of economic growth cannot support rapid population growth or the strain in which HIV/AIDS related issues (i.e. rising medical costs, decline in worker productivity) place on government resources.
- Population—12 million
- HIV/AIDS Positive—900,000 people
- Orphans—1.2 million, 130,000 are HIV positive
- AIDS Orphans—700,000
- Street Kids—75,000

THE PLACE
The House of Faith Orphanage (HOFO) is located on 23 beautiful acres in Silembe, Zambia. This project is more
than an Orphanage –it is the center of energy, direction, and leadership for the surrounding community. We will
continue to invest, encourage, and develop what will finally provide an opportunity for transformation. The change
is already beginning……...
This place represents the next evolution in addressing the plight of Orphans in Zambia. When completed in 2010
HOFO will be home to 72 precious children, and will be a place in the community where the people come together to
draw upon their collective strength and God-given talent to provide hope for this next generation!
This is a place abundant with faith, hope, and love for community. This work is where Global Orphan Relief and the
community of Silembe have come together to provide a place of comfort and safety for these vulnerable children.
This place provides an environment of continual learning, richness, and progress, which together allows an
opportunity for the people of Silembe to care for these children. This place is not only a physical shelter for these
children, but a spiritual and emotional refuge that allows for healing and growth……...
This is a story of where the old will become new again…..
Across Zambia there are an estimated 1.2 million Orphans -which is equal to 10% of the population. House of Faith
Orphanage is about building capacity for the Zambian people, first in Silembe and then by duplicating this process
elsewhere to care for these children –the Orphans.
People around the globe are now starting to notice the plight of the Orphan, and through efforts like this one, –they
too can make a difference.
In Zambia, ‘the bush’ is where many of the people live, and unfortunately the hope to care for these vulnerable
children is vanishing.
The House of Faith Orphanage has already become the rural-core of the surrounding community. It is not hard to
find this development. This project is near the local community school, which will transition to become a part of this
project in the latter part of 2009, and is built with traditional methods and local materials. The journey has begun. It
is now up to all of us to determine where this road will lead…..
These homes for children are unlike any you may find elsewhere in Zambia, or possibly anywhere in the world. The
energy is growing at the site and flowing beyond the borders of the development into the surrounding community.
We are now sowing the seeds of hope that have long been forgotten in this place……
The community is embracing the opportunity the House of Faith Orphanage provides for their most vulnerable
children. The investment can be seen, and change is being realized in this place…..

We are currently funding a Community Center at the House of Faith Orphanage (HOFO)
in Silembe, Zambia. In May 2009 we began our single largest undertaking in terms of one
building at HOFO. We set out to construct a multi-purpose facility that will include an Activity
Center for our children, an apartment for the HOFO Director, short-term housing, storage,
and worship center.
We are extremely pleased with what we have completed thus far, and all under budget! We
hope to finish by the end of 2009, and estimate that completion can achieved for under
$10,000. We have invested $24,400 through August 2009, and our original budget was
$45,000 for this facility.
